The quick thinking actions of some Clarke Transport employees saved an industrial unit from certain disaster.
Recently on Kenfig Industrial Estate, while the night staff were preparing for another busy evening, a shout echoed of fire !
Immediately responding was the acting night foreman, Steve Jarret, who telephoned the fire service for assistance. A neighbouring industrial laundry unit was ablaze with black smoke drifting into the night sky.
Several of our night staff ran across to give any help but realised the factory was empty of people and there was nothing they could do to halt the spread of the fire.
Within minutes the fire brigade had arrived and stopped the spread of the fire, which was by now, getting a firm hold of the building.
On speaking to the fire officers, it was noted that only another twenty minutes and the whole of the building would have been in flames and completely destroyed.
The quick thinking of the Clarkes night staff, saved the premises, which sustained minor damage and the laundry company were able to carry on almost uninterrupted.
The General Manager from the laundry came over personally to thank all concerned for their help in saving the building and the continuation of their business. (August 2008)
